Ryfie Amkraut, GWSB MBA '04 has just finished her first fiction novel entitled Girl: Classified. Ryfie has worked as a government consultant for nine years and was an active participant on the 2009 MBA Reunion Committee.
Ethan Chazin, GWSB MBA '95, just had his book, Bulletproofing Your Career in Turbulent Times, published. Based on his seminars on career exploration and job searching, the book is about conducting unconventional job searches and career transitions.
Dolores Lavalle Cobo, LAW LLM '94, a member of the GW Argentina Alumni Network, published a book, Derecho de Acceso a la Información Pública (the right of access to public information), which strives to contribute to the strengthening of the right to know of all people.
Amanda Dietrich, CCAS BA '02, and Mark Golino, are proud to announce the birth of a baby girl, Emma Grace. She was born on August 11, 2009 in Falls Church, VA, and weighed 8 lb., 12 oz.
Tracy Dillard, GWSB MPA '86, joined Illy Caffe North America and Getty Images as a sponsor of the Learning Modern exhibition, which features works by artists and architects who are continuing Mies van der Rohe's Bauhaus legacy. Learning Modern is a program of Living Modern Chicago, a collaboration of the Mies van der Rohe Society/Illinois Institute of Technology and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently, Tracy is a nationally-recognized residential real estate consultant in Chicago.
Scott Fagan, ESIA BA '99 is currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq at the U.S. Embassy
with his wife, fellow GW alum Christine Fagan (2001,2006). Scott, recently
promoted, is serving as a team leader in the Political-Military section,
while Christine is serving in the Refugee/IDP Affairs office. Both recently
finished a two and half year assignment in Bogota, Colombia.
Roger Fishman, GWSB BBA '85, has recently published a book. The book was researched and written by Roger, and is entitled WHAT I KNOW: Uncommon Wisdom and Universal Truths from 10-year-olds and 100-year-olds. The book is a collection of life insights from opposite ends of the life spectrum, compiled as Roger traveled all across the country.

Lisa Freeman, BBA '02 and Michael Fontanetta, BBA '02 were married on June 20, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA. They met at GW when they were next door neighbors both sophomore and senior year. Several GW classmates were in attendance.
Jessica A. Gary, CCAS BA '04, is the recipient of the Lawyers Alliance for New York's 2009 Cornerstone Award honoring outstanding pro bono legal services to nonprofits. This is for her work with Believe High School Network, a nonprofit charter school management organization focusing on the high school age population, which has traditionally been underrepresented in the development of charter schools in New York City.
Charlene Kannankeril, CCAS BA '00, and Stephen Voss, SEAS BA '01, are thrilled to announce the birth of their son, Luke Paul. He was born on September 15, 2009 in Rockville, Maryland, weighing 7 lb., 8 oz. Mom, Dad and baby are enjoying their new life together at their home in Washington, D.C.

Rebecca Schimmer Kirshner, CCAS BA '01, and Benjamin Kirshner, GWSB BBA '00, announced the birth of their daughter, Sydney Dale Kirshner, born on October 21, 2009 weighing 6 pounds, 4 ounces and measuring 19 3/4 inches long.

Anthony N. Leo, CCAS BA '83, LAW JD '86, was named acting chief executive of Peninsula Bank. Leo was most recently chief administrative officer at Community Banks Inc.
Valida Prince, ESIA BA '08, will join twenty-six other youth leaders from across the country at the United Nations Climate Change Negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark, this December. After graduating, Prentice worked as a communications and policy specialist for Minneapolis-based community wind energy developer, National Wind, LLC.
Richard L. Reed, GWSB BBA '80 MBA '84 was honored with the NCB 2009 Spirit of Cooperation Award, presented at the bank's annual meeting held at The National Geographic Building in Washington, DC. Richard is the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Managing Director of NCB.
Distinguished Naval officer Rear Adm. Robert D. Reilly Jr., GWSB MPA '93, retired from service, ending his 34-year career. Reilly commanded Military Sealift Command, and was responsible for a fleet of more than 110 government-owned and chartered ships across 22 time zones, as well as a workforce of more than 9,000 civilian and military personnel operating at sea and ashore worldwide.
Stacey Salsman, GWSB BBA '03, was hired as a senior account executive by Focused Image Inc., a marketing communications agency.
David Shavzin, GWSB MBA '87, co-founder of Safe Teen Driving Club, is launching the Crash Free America Corporate Communications Program. This program focuses on awareness of the risk factors that lead to driving crashes, providing practical steps parents can take and educating them about the tools available to manage the teen driving process. Robert Wexler, LAW JD '85, Florida congressman, announced that he will be leaving his position in Congress and accepting the position of President of the Center for Middle East Peace. In regards to his new position, Wexler said, "Taking over as president of the Center for Middle East Peace offers me an unparalleled opportunity to work on behalf of Middle East peace for an important and influential non-profit institute."
Irvin Yalom, CCAS BS '48 BA '53, distinguished author and psychotherapist had the honor of having his book, When Nietzche Wept, featured as the book for the Vienna festival, "One City, One Book." 100,000 copies of the book will be printed and given for free to residents, encouraging them to read and discuss.

Stephen Lagakos, CCAS MPhil '72, PhD '72, passed away on October 12. He was a professor of biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health and the former director of Harvard University's Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research. Milan Miskovsky, LAW JD '56, passed away on October 15 in Washington, D.C. Mr. Miskovsky worked for the CIA, the Federal Maritime Commission, the Treasury Department, the Layers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. He played a large role in negotiating a prisoner exchange that freed U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers, helped arrange the release of Cuban Americans captured during the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, and directed an inquiry into the underlying causes of racial unrest for the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders.
