“I met Alexander during GW Law’s first year orientation in a blur of name tags, campus tours, and nerves. We were assigned to different inns and had different schedules, but that never seemed to matter. From the start, conversation with him felt easy and natural. Just before the first BLSA meeting, he asked if I wanted to grab tacos at District Taco nearby, and I said yes. That short walk turned into the beginning of everything. From then on, we did life at GW Law together, studying for ethics, preparing for the Bar, joining the same clubs and committees, and supporting each other through every long night. In 2023, we were named Couple of the Year at the Barrister’s Ball, which felt like a full-circle moment. Nearly four years after orientation first brought us together, we are still growing stronger.” - Taylor

Alexandra Bellehsen, BA ’09, and Daniel Bellehsen, BA ‘08

“Dan and I met in 2006, my freshman year and his sophomore year. We were already running in the same circles, and my friend Melissa was convinced we needed to meet—thanks in part to our shared Jewish Moroccan backgrounds. As only a true GW love story can begin, it all came together on a Thursday night at K Street Lounge. Dan was hooked immediately; I was not. But anyone who knows Dan knows he’s not one to give up easily. When he realized we were both in chemistry class and that I was struggling, he claimed he needed a tutor too and hired one, just so we could spend more time together. Over the next few months, we became best friends. By summer, it was clear where things were headed, and we officially started dating. We married in New Jersey in 2013, later lived in Los Angeles and Boston, and now call beautiful Miami Beach home with our three children.” - Alexandra

“I was friends with my now husband’s roommate, and I met him through that mutual connection. One day, I bumped into David on the quad and asked if he was going to hear his roommate speak that night. He told me he was working tech for the event, and we made plans to meet up with our friend group at Odds afterward. We hung out there, and that’s when he asked me out on our first date.” - Rachel

Jessie (Jessica) Donegan, JD ’23, and Andrew Bearkland, JD ‘23

“We met during our first semester of 1L in Fall 2020. We were in an online breakout room for our Lawyering course to discuss an assignment. We connected, I asked Jessie to study for our midterm, we talked until 5 am on Google Meet, and the rest is history. I just proposed in July, and we are engaged to be married in August 2027!” - Andrew

“We met in August 2012 during international student orientation, when we began our doctoral degrees together. We sat at the same lunch table and were the first to speak to each other. The rest is history. Constantin is German-Swiss, and I am Chinese. We quickly started dating while studying at GW and working as TAs. We lived on 21st and F, just two blocks from our offices, and often took long walks from GW to the White House, the Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and back to campus. We were married two years later, and by the time we finished our doctorates, we had welcomed two children at GW Hospital. In 2021, we moved to Dublin, Ireland, where our third child was born. GW is where our family story began.” – Jing

Elaine Douglas, BA ’96, and Yoku Quainoo Shaw-Taylor, MPhil ’94, PhD ‘98

“Elaine was working as an administrative assistant in the Sociology Department while pursuing a degree in Anthropology. At the time, I was working on my PhD in sociology and was deeply focused on my program. One day, overwhelmed with coursework, I came into the department and sat in the main office where Elaine was working. Although our paths had crossed many times, we had never really talked. That day, we started a conversation about school, work, life, and family, and I remember her encouraging me to keep going, something I will never forget. Not long after, we went on a movie date, and that’s where we found love.” – Yoku

“We met in Fuller Griffith’s Fine Art Lithography class in September 1970. Since Fuller preferred that lithography students work in pairs, he assigned us as partners. In class, one person sponges the stone while the other rolls ink onto the image, and our pairing worked perfectly. We married on July 4, 1971, in Harper’s Ferry, WVA. We are both working artists and have remained together ever since.” – Joyce

Kathy Megyeri, MA ‘69, MA ‘82, and Leslie l. Megyeri, BA ‘63, JD ‘68, MBA ‘80

“We met in a speech class in the summer of 1963, and for our first date, we walked down to hear Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial. We were married in 1970, and I have remained active with the GW Law Alumni Association. We now count these stellar former law school deans among our closest friends: Paul and Laura Berman, Greg Maggs, and Blake and Paulette Morant. In no other setting would we have had the privilege of meeting Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who was present at the swearing-in of now-Judge Greg Maggs. Thus, in gratitude for setting me up for a career in government contracts, thanks to former GW law professor John Cibinic, which allowed me to retire from Capitol Hill after serving as a lawyer on the House Judiciary Committee, we are leaving our estate to the law school in the name of Professor Cibinic.” – Leslie

“Andrew and I met at George Washington University as student athletes balancing busy schedules and big goals. He was a senior on the swim team, and I was a freshman on the volleyball team. Our first meeting was brief, but GW had a way of bringing us back together. When Andrew became an athletic trainer for the volleyball program, familiar faces and shared spaces turned into a genuine friendship. That friendship grew into something deeper, rooted in the discipline of athletics, teamwork, and the belief that success comes from showing up consistently. There was no single defining moment, just a series of everyday interactions that built trust, balance, and shared values. Our love story reflects the heart of the GW experience. A chance connection on campus became a lasting partnership that continues to grow long after graduation.” – Jamie

Marissa Gordon, BA ’19, and Nat Gordon, BBA ‘19

“We met in February 2016 during our freshman year and quickly discovered that we were both from Massachusetts, having grown up just 30 minutes apart. Our high schools even played each other in sports. Throughout our time at GW, our lives became increasingly intertwined as our friend groups merged and Washington, D.C., became the backdrop for many shared experiences. In 2018, during our junior year, we navigated a long-distance relationship while I studied abroad in Paris. Nat came to visit for Spring Break, and that summer we reunited and moved in together in Portland, Maine. After graduating in 2019, we returned to Massachusetts and settled in the Boston area. During the pandemic, we worked from home together and adopted our beloved beagle, Chester. In October 2023, we got engaged, and in September 2024, we were married. In April 2025, we purchased our first home and now live just outside Boston, close to both of our families.” - Marissa

“We met on the last day of exams during our freshman year in spring 1994. I lived in Adams Hall but was celebrating with friends at Thurston Hall, where Lara happened to be visiting friends in the same suite. We instantly hit it off, talking and laughing, and from that moment on, she was the most mesmerizing person I had ever met. We crossed paths again by chance on move-in day at Crawford Hall in fall 1995. I was waiting for the elevator with my bike when Lara stepped on with hers, and we realized we had the exact same bike. After that, we were nearly inseparable, spending countless hours together, including studying for many economics classes. More than 30 years later, Lara is still the most mesmerizing person I know. Side note: my grandmother once told me women go to college for their “Mrs.,” and in my case, she was right.” - Lisa

The love goes on... 🥰
