Mount Vernon National Advisory Council

Established in 2013, the Mount Vernon National Advisory Council (MVNAC) promotes the legacy of Elizabeth J. Somers, embracing her motto: vincit qui se vincit, “She who conquers self, conquers all.”

The MVNAC advances Somers’ vision of education and leadership training for women in three ways:

  • Managing the Elizabeth J. Somers Women’s Leadership Mentorship Program for participants in GW’s Women’s Leadership Program, a selective, year-long, living and learning program for freshmen women of any school at the George Washington University.
  • Promoting a culture of philanthropy among the alumnae body, to ensure that they continue to contribute their time, talent and financial resources to the betterment of the Mount Vernon campus.
  • Honoring women who promote education in their personal and professional lives at the annual Elizabeth J. Somers Award Program.
