Alumni Veterans

Since 1944, when the first veteran of WWII attended on the newly-passed G.I. Bill, GW has been providing financial and logistical resources to help veterans make the transition from combat to classroom. Launched in May 2013, Operation GW VALOR is a comprehensive, collaborative, and unified effort by key GW stakeholders to ensure that the university provides the highest caliber services to military members, veterans, and their families. Mount Vernon College National Advisory Council

The Mount Vernon Seminary and College National Advisory Council promotes the legacy of Elizabeth J. Somers, founder of Mount Vernon Seminary and College (1868-1999). The Council’s mission is to preserve and sustain the treasured Mount Vernon Seminary and College legacy through alumnae engagement and the support of GW’s Women’s Leadership Program. We embrace Somers’ motto: vincit qui se vincit, “She who conquers self, conquers all.”

The Council is dedicated to highlighting our distinguished alumnae, building an impactful network, and creating opportunities for alumnae to interact, share experiences and information. We are committed to supporting GW’s Elizabeth J. Somers Women’s Leadership Program (WLP) which continues Somers’ legacy of excellence in educating women and is housed on the beautiful Mount Vernon Campus.

The Council is co-chaired by Amy Matthews, MVC '89, and Monika Carter Laws, MVC '91.
