Spirit of GW Awards Nomination Form

The George Washington University is defined by the achievements of its people. Across the globe, GW alumni are breaking barriers, leading with integrity, and serving as a force for good in their communities.

We invite you to help us recognize these remarkable individuals through the Spirit of GW Awards, our university’s highest alumni honors. The window for 2026 submissions is now closed, but you can learn more about the qualification process for future nominations.

 

We are seeking nominations in three distinct categories:

  • Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award: For those who have reached the pinnacle of their professional careers and represent GW’s legacy of excellence.
  • Alumni Outstanding Service Award: For graduates who have shown a sustained, deep commitment to the university through their volunteerism and leadership.
  • Recent Alumni Achievement Award: For our Revolutionaries of the last decade (Class of 2016 – Class of 2025) who have made significant impacts early in their professional journeys.

General Eligibility
To be eligible for a Spirit of GW Award, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Alumni recipients must have earned a degree from GW.
  2. Current voting members of the Board of Trustees, or current members of the GW Alumni Council are not eligible.
  3. Each recipient is expected to attend the awards ceremony to accept his or her award, except in extraordinary circumstances.
  4. The awards committee is not obligated to select a recipient from every category in any given year.
  5. Awards will not be given posthumously.
  6. No self-nominations.

A competitive nomination submission should include these items and is limited to 10 pages:

  • At least one letter of reference
  • Nominee’s resume/career summary
  • Websites or articles describing nominee’s impact
