GW License Plates

Show your GW pride with our GW license plate! Plates are available through the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia DMVs to alumni whose vehicles are registered in each state.

If you have questions about the process to get your license plate, please email the Office of Alumni Relations at alumni@gwu.edu or call 1-800-ALUMNI-7.

District of Columbia

  1. Complete the "Member Information" and "Applicant's Certification" portions of the Organizational Vehicle Tag Member Authorization Letter (PDF).

  2. Mail your completed authorization letter to:
    GW Office of Alumni Relations
    Attn: Rasul Coleman
    1922 F Street, NW, Suite 321
    Washington, DC 20052
    *The authorization letter will be signed and mailed back to you within 10 business days.

  3. All organizational tags are available at any DC DMV service location. You must bring the following to the DC DMV service center:

    - Signed “Organizational Vehicle Tag Member Authorization” letter

    - Valid identification, including DC DMV driver license, learner permit, or identification card of the registered owner(s)

    - Existing vehicle tags

    - Applicable DC DMV Fees  (Note:  The member application tag fee is deposited into the District's general fund.)

Maryland

  1. Complete the Application/Certification for Organizational License Plates (PDF).

  2. Mail your Application Form and a check for $25 payable to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration to:
    GW Office of Alumni Relations, Suite 321
    Attn: Rasul Coleman
    1922 F Street, NW
    Washington, DC 20052

  3. We will complete the authorization portion of the application form and forward the signed form and your payment to the MVA's Specialty Tag Unit for processing.

  4. The MVA Specialty Tag Unit will process your application and send your tags to you directly within 30 days. 

Please save a copy of your completed form for your records.

Virginia

You can order your GW plates online by visiting the specialized license plates information page at the DMV.
